Pavel Aguilar, 1989
Tegucigalpa, Honduras

CV

Lives and works between Honduras and Zurich, Switzerland. It was only after first training as a classical violinist at the National School of Music of Tegucigalpa, Honduras, and then obtaining a BA in Audiovisual Communication at the Universidad Tecnológica Centroamericana, that Pável Aguilar moved to study fine arts at Institut Kunst Gender Natur in Basel.

His research focuses on postcolonialism and migration, investigating the subtle network of relations and references that can be drawn from the history and geography of a territory and from the human presence which inhabits, occupies, or even exploits it. The visual representation of sound is central in Aguilar’s work. In particular, he is interested in how the combination of music with its visual translation (or interpretation) can be used as a powerful tool to convey to a larger audience a reflection on the complex sociopolitical history in a poetic yet accessible way.

In 2020, Aguilar got the Kunstkredit Basel-Stadt werkbeiträge in Basel; Finalist for the Swiss Performance Art Award in 2021; finalist for Contemporary Talents at François Schneider Foundation (FR) in 2022 and nominated for the Swiss Art Award 2023
